Sunday 5th October (16.00-17.30 in the ULU pool, 17.30-19.00 in Room 2B)Freshers' training begins in earnest. With only three weeks until the Southampton competition, we'll be throwing people in the deep end (metaphorically speaking, at least). During our pool session, we will be covering the basics: casualty recognition, and contact tows. We will also introduce some of the swimming strokes used by lifesavers, as well as some competitive events such as the line throw. On dryside, we will be completing the first of two Community Life Support sessions (the other being on the following Tuesday). If you attend both sessions, you will get a certificate of attendence. We will consider adult basic life support, teaching you how to put someone in the recovery position and how to perform CPR. Tuesday 7th October (19.30-21.00 in Room 2B, 21.00-22.00 in the ULU pool)In dryside, we will hold the second and final Community Life Support session. We will consider choking, bleeding and vomiting, and give you plenty of time to practise the skills you have learnt through simulated emergency response competitions (SERCs). In the pool, we will be training for lifesaving sport. We will start with a swim session, before going on to line throw and obstacles practice. |

Freshers SocialSaturday 4th October sees the annual ULU Lifesaving Freshers' Social! This year, we will be meeting at 17.00 in Walkabout on Shaftsbury Avenue. We'll be playing drinking games, and grabbing some food (perhaps in China town). Afterwards, we're on the guest list at Strawberry Moons, a cheesy club just off Regent Street. We have a table booked in the club, so everyone will have somewhere to rest in between bouts of dancing. The price of the social is 10 quid, including a ULU Lifesaving social t shirt and your first drink in Walkabout. Please note that if you arrive late (after we have gone into the club), you will need to pay your own entry into Strawberry Moons. Still confused? Don't worry we know freshers week can be tough on some of you, why not join our facebook group for more information on this social? |
